Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, is making the most of the time left before Shah Rukh Khan’s Dinky releases in theaters this week. After entering the Rs 500 crore club domestically on Sunday, the film recorded its lowest single-day collection on Monday. It earned Rs 5.50 crore on its 18th day, reports industry tracker Sacknilk.
The total domestic collection of Animal now stands at Rs 517.94 crore. The film needs only Rs 8 crore to surpass Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 to become the sixth highest-grossing Indian film in India. Gadar 2 ended its theatrical run with Rs 525.7 crore. But time is running out for the animal, the donkey and the salar are close by. SRK’s last two releases, Jawan (Rs 640.25 crore) and Pathan (Rs 543.09 crore) are ranked fourth and fifth in the list of highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
Despite mixed reviews from audiences and critics, Animal has earned Rs 835 crore globally, making it the third Indian film of the year to cross the $100 million mark after Pathan and Jaawan. But considering the competition between Shahrukh’s Dinky and Prabhas’ Salaar, releasing on December 22, the path to reach Rs 1000 crore seems difficult.
Earlier, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma had praised the success of Animal by writing five excerpts from the film. He wrote on X, “Mega box office proves that all Indians now love and respect a director (Sandeep Reddy Vanga) who is not loved and respected. All Indians have now realized that all Indians have grown up.”
Director Meghna Gulzar’s biographical drama Animal starring Sam Bahadur was released in theaters on December 1. The Vicky Kaushal starrer did not find many takers at the box office and has collected Rs 78.25 crore domestically till Monday. Globally, the film finally crossed the Rs 100 crore earning mark earlier this week.
